ON THE TENSE FORM OF ENGLISH MODAL VERBS

针对英语情态动词有无时态形式 ,这一语言学界存在着较大争议的问题 ,从形式表征和语义表征方面入手 ,借助语言学历时及共时的观点 。

This paper probes into the long lasting question about whether there are tense forms with the English modal verbs.By means of form analysis,semantic analysis and by applying the principles of diachronic linguistics and synchronic linguistics,the author thinks that,like all the other verbs in English,English modal verbs do have their tense forms respectively
