There was astounding resemblance between LU Xun and HU Shi on the comprehension of Chinese culture spirits and the people's soul, especially when they were in the beginning stage of 5.4 revolution. Their ideas represented the two typical division in the course of Chinese modern culture history evolution -LU Xun progressed from evolutionism to historical materialism; HU Shi changed from pragmatism to New Confucianism. What LU Xun strived after diligently was the consciousness of deep culture introspection while what HU Shi struggled for a whole life was the intellectuals' liberal living state.
