孔子重生不重死，他说：“不知生，焉之死?”实际上是对死亡采取回避态度。在鬼神观念占统治地位的那个时代，孔子既没有否定鬼神的存在，也没有像后来的墨子那样明确肯定鬼神的存在，但他相信天命，仍然是唯心主义者。

Confucius paid closer attention to the birth than that to the death.Confucius ever asked:“How does man know the death without knowing the birth?”i.e.he actually avoided discussing the death.As most people had ideas of ghost in Confucius'time,Confucius did not deny the existence of ghost,nor did he assert the existence of ghost like Master Mozi did afterwards.Nonetheless,Confucius was an idealist who believed the doom from Heaven.
