This paper deals with the aspects of understanding from the viewpoint of Chinese-English translation. This understanding involves meanings of specific words and sentences, differences in expression and culture between the two languages. The conclusion is that only with accurate and thorough under-standing can we expect our translation to be both faithful and idiomatic.
