Dalai Lama the Fifth was a great thinker,and statesman and a famous scholar in Tibetan history.Through an introduction and analysis of the family background of Dalai Lama the Fifth and fhe processes of his birth and of looking for and determination on him,this article makes an investigation on the hisory of the fierce struggle for the ruling power over the whole of Tibet in the political and religious fislds of Tibetan society in the 17 t hcentuy and holds that the looking-for and determination of Dalai Lama the Fifth is a product of the religious sect struggle at that time.
