科技英语文献的词汇由非专业词汇、次专业词汇和专业词汇构成。次专业词汇使用频繁，在任何科技文献中均占８０％以上；专业词汇种类繁多、数量庞大。行为动词使用准确，“名词＋名词”结构灵活多变。大量的缩写词、符号、公式、分子式、方程式等构成了科技英语文献的词汇特色。
The vocabulary in EST ( English for Science and Technology) literature is made up of three major categories: non technical vocabulary, subtechnical vocabulary, and highly technical voca bulary. The occurrence of subtechnical items in EST documents is as high as over 80 percent, while the number of highly technical terms is enormous. The frequent occurrence of noun phra ses, abbreviations, symbols, equations and formulae is the outstanding lexical feature of EST li terature.
