Based on an analysis of the novels of the end of the century, this article reveals an outstanding feature of the cultural conflict in the Chinese society of the turning period subverting the elite, and its actual background. The authors consider that, although it is of revolutionary significance for the hippie, the philistine and the white collar to despise and challenge the elite, it could also cause disastrous social crisis if it went to the other extreme. Thus, the authors maintain that all the social strata strengthen cultural exchange and communication. \ \
