Mencius is noted for his excellent eloquence. When arguing against his adversary, he would set traps skillfully, or leave him at large the better to apprehend him, or press forward steadily, or give tit for tat. Sometimes he would refute his opponent with his own argument. He is good at using parallelism, antithesis and figures of speech. His prose writing keeps a unique artistic style: enthusiastic, powerful, sharp and pointed.
