《中国蒙古文古籍总目》一书具有完善的结构体例、标准的编目技术、较高的学术水平和鲜明的民族特色。是一部具有国家书目性质的大型蒙古文书目工具书。其书的编制始于 1985年 ,由十个单位作为发起单位 ,并由该单位负责人组成领导小组。经过十四年的努力 ,于 1999年 12月由北京图书馆出版社出版。此书的出版 ,率先高质量地完成了我国民族古籍“摸清家底、编制目录”的任务。
