《推销员之死》从整体象征这一现代主义表现手法入手 ,运用诸如高层建筑、钻石、汽车、长筒丝袜、录音机等现代文明的象征物 ,旨在击碎主人公虚幻的“美国梦” ,通过对威利这一象征性形象的深化和扩展 。
The holistic symbolization, one of the means of modernism, is employed in 'Death of a Salesman'. Symbols such as high buildings, diamonds, cars, silk stocks, tape-recorders are used to symbolize the hero's illusive 'American dream'. The profound theme that countless ordinary people fail to dream of success in the modern civilized society is expressed through thorough symbolic visualization of Willy.
