The paper presents a systematic introduction to the art of igniting of pulverized coal boilers with various kinds of oils and also with oil saving as well as oil free methods. In addition, starting from basic principles and service conditions, the paper, after comparing their advantages and disadvantages, points out that the future development of pulverized coal combustors lies in the advanced oil free ignition techique, harmonically combined with precombustion chambers and stable combustion techniques.
