Novel technologies for intensifying chemical engineering processes are introduced. Apparatus intensification such as new reactor types and new unit operation apparatus, and intensification means such as multifunctional reactors, integration of separation processes, energy source substiutes and supercritical fluids, etc. are highlighted. These new developments are expected to bring dramatic improvements in reducing the size of equipment and plant, and leading to compact, safe, clean and effective production. The new technologies, which may be applicable to the development of domestic petrochemical industry in 21st century, are proposed.
