摘要
本文从语义的角度 ,探析构成英语委婉语的语义手段 ,英语委婉语使用的内部机制 ,即联想意义的运用 ,来说明这些不同类型的意义如何适从于语言交际的总体效果 ,以及联想意义的运用所引起的各种语义变化。
This article adopts a semantic approach to English euphemism. It explores the semantic processes by means of which English euphemisms are formed, the internal mechanism governing the use of English euphemism, i.e. 'associative engineering' to show how different types of meaning fit into the total composite effect of linguistic communication, and discusses the semantic changes caused by 'associative engineering'.
