Pursuits of Studying Abroad: an imperial-financed System in Times of Westernization Movement in the 19^(th) Century of China

洋务运动时期的官派留学生教育，是中国近代教育的创举和飞跃，它培养了中国近代第一批科技、外交、政治、教育等方面的杰出人才，在洋务派的主持下，形成了关于留学生的选拔、管理、经费筹措以及学成回国后的任用和奖励等一整套制度，对中国近代教育产生了深刻的影响。

The imperial-financed education system of pursuits of studying abroad in times of Westernization Movement was a pioneering undertaking and great leap in the modern education, which trained and brought up the first generation of outstanding talented professionals such as scientists, technicians, diplomats, politicians and educators. With Westernization-supporters in charge, a whole system of sending students studying abroad was formed with regard to the selection, management, fund-raising, recruitment of returned students and their awarding, which exerted great impact on modem education of China.
