A Sociolinguistic Analysis of the Cultural Characteristics of English and Chinese Proverbs

本文旨在应用社会语言学的理论与方法，对英汉谚语作对比分析，指出英汉两种语言在谚语这一特殊的语言表现形式上所反映的各自民族文化特征的深层内涵，有利于了解两种语言文化的异同。

From sociolinguistic viewpoint, through the way of contrastive analysis, the article attempts to discuss the differences and similarities of the English and Chinese cultural char- acteristics which are embedded in their own proverbs.
