亚裔美国人的身份认同是当代亚裔研究中的一个不可忽视的问题。种族或族裔背景是身份认同的基础。亚裔在美国一个半世纪的开拓历程中 ,他们的身份认同经历了以下几种变迁 :暂居者 (侨民 )、族裔美国人、亚裔美国人和正在生成的一定程度的多种族或族裔美国人。而每一种身份认同都具有鲜明的时代特征和现实意义 ,体现了亚裔美国人对美国社会文化的接受和适应 。

Asian Americans' identity is an important issue in Asian American studies.Sojourners(aliens),ethnic Americans, Asian Americans and the emerging multiracial/multiethnic Americans are the four major identities in Asian American history . It is of significance to understand its different historical surroundings and the way in which Asian Americans lived by studying Asian Americans' identity. And it also gives us a brief introduction of the acculturation of Asian Americans and the variety of race and ethnicity in American society.
