Charateristics need of separator paper for mercury-free alkaline Zn/MnO2 battery was introduced.With the deduce of mercury content in battery year by year，the changes of materials and fibre diameter of separator paper were introduced too.It was reported that NKK corporation had developed four kinds of separator paper for batteries.The development direction and aim of mercury-free separator paper for battery were summarized.And it was thought that how to adjust the fibre diameter to certain appropriate extent was the key of success.
