世纪之交的散文创作在价值取向上存在着多元而又匮乏的悖论现象。对散文"自我"观念理解的偏狭是形成上述现状的主要原因。新世纪的散文将以富有创意的审美境界和更高的人文关怀成为揭示社会现实、揭示人性深度的新叙事、新所指。

Prose writing at the turn of the century is characterized with a pheno menon of dilemma in its orientation: multiplicity and poverty, a result of too n arrow understanding of the 'self' concept in prose writing. Prose writing in the new century should go to a higher aesthetic stage with creative endeavors and m ore care for humanities if it is to be a new narration of exploring the social r eality and human nature in depth.
