中国近世文学与“近代文学”

Pre-modern Chinese Literature and “Modern Chinese Literature”

近世文学在崇尚以个人为本位的尊重个性的精神及对文学自身特征的重视和探讨等方面与现代文学存在着相通之处，因而成为中国文学从中世进到现代的中介。在近世文学与现代文学之间毋需也不应楔入所谓"近代文学"(1840年至1919年间的文学)作为古代文学与现代文学的桥梁。而且，自1840年鸦片战争至十九世纪末时段，并未出现明显的并足以成为一个新的文学历史阶段重要标志的文学新气象。

Pre-modern Chinese literature was similar to mode rn Chinese literature both in advocating individuality and emphasizing its own features based on humanism, so it became the medium of Chinese literature from Middle Ages to the Modern Times. Therefore, the so-called 'modern Chinese lit erature' (the Chinese literature period from 1840 to 1919) between pre modern Chinese literature and modern Chinese literature should not be inserted so as to bridge traditional Chinese literature and modern Chinese literature since there is no such necessity. Furthermore, there did not emerge any obviously new atm osphere of literature, which was new enough to become an important symbol of a new period of literature history, during the period from the Opium War of 1840 to the end of the 19th century.
