本文从文化差异这一角度就中西 (英语国家 )不同文化背景下的人们对合作原则与礼貌原则的不同理解作了比较。为使交际能够顺利进行 ,人们必须遵守合作原则与礼貌原则 ,这是人们交际的基础。但跨文化交际是否能够顺利进行在很大程度上还要受到文化的制约。中西文化的差异使人们衡量事物的标准有所不同 ,对合作原则与礼貌原则的重视和理解自然也就不同。

This article discusses the different understanding of cooperative principle and politeness principle on the basis of cultural difference. To communicate smoothly, people should follow the cooperative principle and the politeness principle. However, whether we can communicate smoothly or not is also restricted by culture. Cultural differences between China and English countries cause people to have different understanding of the cooperative principle and the politeness principle.
