Lhx 4 gene is a member of the LIM homeobox gene family and plays a critical role in the development of motor neurons. A cDNA of human Lhx 4 gene was isolated from the cDNA library of adult human spinal cord. Its sequence was 92% homologous to that of the mouse. Its structure and chromosomal localization was identified. The gene was localized on human chromosome 1q 24.1-1q 24.3 and composed of six exons. The homeodomain was encoded by two exons, exons 4 and 5. The first LIM domain was encoded by exon 2, and the second by exon 3.
