The Image of China in Matteo Ricci's Reading Notes about China

本文运用比较文学形象学的理论和方法 ,考察《利玛窦中国札记》一书中塑造的中国形象。这一形象既是西方社会总体想象的产物 ,又是利玛窦个人在中国进行传教活动时的真实印象。它受制于欧洲社会文化语境和读者期待视野 ,“为我所用”的立场显而易见。但由于采用的是实录的方式 ,这一中国形象又具有某些真实成份。这一形象塑造的双重特征 ,体现出“异国形象”塑造的基本特征和规律。

This paper studies the image of China described in the book Matteo Ricci's Reading Notes about China by using comparative literature imagology theory and method. The image is the result of social imagination in western countries,as well as Matteo Ricci's own real impression when he was doing missionary in China.The image is controlled by the European social cultural context and the readers'awaiting field of vision,and the standing point of 'For My Own Usage'is obvious.Because the notes were written on the spots,this image of China is real in a greater degree.The dual characteristics about the image reflects the basic characteristic and law in forming a foreign sountry's image.
