This paper analyzes the pitfalls in current intelligent computer-assisted instruction(ICAI) systems and introduces a new ICAI architecture called OICAI. OICAI is founded on a systematic viewpoint of pedagogical and cognitive principles. The paper also discusses each module in OICAI and the relationships and interactions between different modules.
