Modern philosophy has exerted a great impact on translation studies. A prevailing concept is that there is no boundary to interpretation, and therefore the original text loses its status in translation. This paper is a tentative exploration of the relationship between the text and the translator. Starting from a philosophical approach, it argues that text interpretation is the basis of translation. Recognition of the translator′s creativity does not mean absence of any commonly accepted interpretation to the original text. The translator should seek a balance between creativity and the objectivity of the original in the process of translation.
