中国传统文化既是几千年中华民族思想文化的历史积淀,也是中华民族生生不息的动力源泉。以鲁迅为代表的一代现代知识分子都不可避免地在个人心态中折射着传统文化的光辉。传统文化赋予知识分子的社会责任感敦促鲁迅举起启蒙的大旗,对传统文化在社会心理的历史积淀和它所造成的精神创伤,即对国民性弱点进行了反省与批判。沈从文与鲁迅小说创作中传统文化的所指就有很大不同。传统文化对沈从文的影响更多地表现为世俗民风的浸染与湘土人情的渗透,他在小说中构建的是一个感性自足的世界。
