Liu Xie through his the Literary Heart and the Carving of Dragons, a magmus opus of historical significance, sucessfully founded the most comprehensive, profound, and perfect theory of literary style. According to Liu Xie, the style of any literary work is determined by the writer's disposition. In the light of literary practice, Liu Xie originally classified the literary styles into eight types, which made him the pioneer of style typology in the history of Chinese literature.
