杜十娘与简爱分别是处于东西方社会底层的妇女形象。她们在性格上均有反抗性,但二者的性格内涵又表现迥异。前者的悲剧是社会悲剧,是男权文化对女性价值尊严的残酷扼杀,是封建桎梏下女性意识沉睡时下层妇女命运的必然,而后者的胜利则是启蒙运动“自由、平等”思想深入人心的必然结果。

Du Shiniang and Jane Eye belong to the eastern and western female Images of low social position.They have resistant characters,but the connotations of their characters are different in expression.The former tragedy is the social tragedy which is the result of the cruel strangling of the female value esteem by the man right culture and the inevitable consequence of women's fate of low social position under the feudal shackles when the female consciousness is asleep.The latter victory is the inevitable result of popularity of the thoughts of freedom and equality of Enlightenment Movement.
