从《红楼梦》中文化语汇的翻译看交际翻译与语意翻译

The communicative translation and semantic Translation in A Dream of Red Mansion

著名的翻译理论家彼得·纽马克提出的交际翻译及语意翻译理论为翻译实践提供了有益的指导.两者方法的根本分歧是交际翻译法强调表达效果与原文和谐统一,而不是语意的对等.本文以杨宪义、戴乃迭夫妇翻译的《红楼梦》中的文化语汇的翻译为例,简要分析了语意翻译及交际翻译在实践中的应用.

Semantic translation and communicative translation by the famous translating theorist Peter Newmark is suggestive for the translating practice.The main difference between these two methods is that the communicative translation attaches great importance to the force of the text,which intends for the functional equivalence.While semantic translation tries its utmost to keep the meaning and structure of the original.A Dream of Red Mansion is a great work loaded with rich Chinese culture.An effective translation of it can not be realized through a single translating formula.This paper takes the translation of A Dream of Red Mansion by Yang Hsien-yi & Gladys Yang as the text to analyze the use of these two methods in practice.
