Language Life,Language Education and Language Theories in China in the 20th Century

２０世纪中国语言生活和语言教育的重 大变化和成就是建设全国通用的共同汉语──普通话，建设跟普通话一致的书面汉语 ──白话文，建设书写汉语的方便文字──简化字和汉语拼音，逐步推广世界通用的共同语 言──英语，从而使中国语言生活走向现代化。在语言理论研究方面，不仅通过翻译外国理 论 ，结合中国的语言实际编写了不少语言理论教材，而且在指导中国语言现代化实践的过程中 ，产生了有中国特色的语言理论。

Great changes and achievements in China's language life and langnage education in the 20th century include the construction of Putonghua──the common spoken Chinese,the construction of Baihuawen──written Chinese that is identical with oral Chinese,the construction of Hanyu Pinyin and Jianhuazi──simplified Chinese characters, and the popularization of English— —the common language of the world,which results in the modernization of China's life. In the field of language theory studies,by combining language theory with the reality of the Chinese Language,researchers have compiled mang language theory textbooks after translating some foreign thories.Moreover,they have created language theories with Chinese characteristics in the proess of guiding the practice of the Chinese language modernization.
