The Attempts of Self-support by the Protestant Missionaries in Late Qing Dynasty

基督新教教会的自养问题是近代基督教在华传播史上的一个重要问题。晚清时期 ,迫于反教的巨大压力和传教资金的短缺 ,一部分传教士开始倡导中国教会的自养 ,并进行了多种形式的探讨。这一举措取得了一定成效 ,但来自各方面的阻力使得自养事业陷入困境。

The self_support of Protestant churches is an important problem in the cause of mission in modern China. In late Qing Dynasty, some Protestant missionaries began to advocate the self-support of churches and made a variety of attempts when confronted with the pressure of anti-Christianity and the shortage of funds for mission. These attempts produced some fruits, but the resistance from many sides obstructed the course of self-support. In brief, the self-support of Protestant churches in this period was still in the state of germination.
