This thesis presents the design idea and implementation details of LANPET(local Arda Network Performance Evaluation Tool),the tool of composingmeasure ment and simulation techmiques. LANPET consists of a benchmark module and a simulation module. In LANPET the characterized performance parameters are collected or refined, through a runtime benchmark measurement in a LAN system. Based on the measuremeat, the LANPET gives the effect of LAN's performance under different configuration environments after simuation experiments By using the two popular LAN products-3 plus and novell as experiment objects, the analysis and comparison of the performances are described The last part of the paper gives a conclusion
