A key intermediate of antiasthma drug formoterol, 1 (4 methoxy)phenyl 2 propyl amine, was synthesized from 4 hydroxyphenyl acetic acid as an alternate synthetic route in an overall yield of 38%. The process was simple and not difficult to handle.
