A new process for preparing EOPO polyol was studied in which firstly an initiating agent of low boiling point (propionic acid) acid and a small quantity of KOH, EO and PO were added into the reaction system, and an intermediate was obtained. Secondly, the water in the intermediate was drawn out of the system at higher temperature and in vacuum. Thirdly, more EO and PO needed by the objective product were added into this intermediate. The properties of the products were different when their intermediates have different structures. When the structure of the intermediate was PrEO 5, its product has the narrowest distribution of relative molecular weight, and when it was PrEO 5PO 3, its product has best appearance. By means of column chromatography, it was found that the content of PEG in the product is zero.
