The application, performance and synthesis route of 2-ethyl hexyl mercaptoacetate product are introduced in this article. The synthesis process which adopts esterification firstly, then sulfhydrylation is based on starting materials 2-ethyl hexanol and chloroacetic acid. The activity of the catalyst is high, reaction steps are few and overall yield of product is high. Difficulties including complex process of sulfhydrylation first and then esterification, requirement of high purity of mercaptoacetic acid, and high production cost have been overcome. This new manufacturing process has a high commercial value.
