The effect of nitrogen in gray irons and nitrogen－ containing gray iro ns was introduced.The problems about the thermodynamics and dynamics of the sol u tion of nitrogen in gray irons,the influence of nitrogen on the phase transiti on temperature of gray iron ,the distribution of nitrogen in gray irons,the inf lue nce of nitrogen on the stucture and properties of gray irons,and the product ion of nitrogen－ containing gray irons were described.
