Sima Qian has some clear and consistent guiding views of principal expression on his creations, that is, his views on biographical literature lie in the following. First, 'man' is the fundamental aesthetic object of the biographical literature; second, truthfulness is the conscience and responsibility of biographers; third, the vivid and profound artistic quality is sought after; finally, the biographical literature must possess the philosophical depth.
