This paper is pointed out that it's necessary and urgent to implement the plan of the river digitalization,and the fundamental position of modeling our rivers from the point of view of accclerating informatization and advancing water resources modernization.The paper expounds the concept and contents of the river digitalization,and the important role it plays in the informatization as well as how the information system is founded.From the viewpoint of high level beginning and leap type developping,the paper emphasizes that we should adopt domestic and international advanced technologies to realize water resources informatization steadily and swiftly.
