To study the effect of intrauterine low level lead expossure on neonatal neurobehavioral development,maternal and umbilical blood lead levels were determined in 138 cases of neonates(79 cases of Han and 59 cases of Uygur)with graphite oven atomic absorption spectrometry,and indicatiors for neurobehavioral development were examined using NBNA.The results showed that among the 138 cases,maternal blood lead levels were(12~267)μg/L,umbilical blood lead levels were(10~252)μg/L.There were significant statistic correlation between blood lead levels of mothers and their babies' umbilical cords( r =0 8047,0 7898, P <0 01).Maternal and umbilical blood lead levels were higher in Uygur than that of Han( P <0 01, P <0 05).The blood lead level was ≥100 μg/L in 53 cases of pregnant women and 49 cases of neonates.(2)The umbilical blood lead levels had negative relationship with neonatal neurobehavioral ability score( P <0 01),especially with nonbiologically auditory and biological visual and auditory orientaion reaction( P <0 05, P <0 01).The umbilical blood lead level could cause adverse effects on neonatal neurobehavioral development,and neonatal lead poisoning in Uygur was relevant highter comparing with other areas.Enough attention should be paid to the situation.
