This paper describes various harmful consequences resulted from incr-
reasing or decreasing the vertical landing speed fof ei parachutes and clea-
rly points out that the landing Posture plays an important rolein the
course of landing. The body′s self-buffering function can be perfectly used
and rather high vertical landing speed can be tolerated without injury
when in a correct landing posture;conversely, when in an incorrect inj-
ury can be caused easily, even if the landing speed is low.The landing
posture musti be considered in determining human tolerance to the ive-
rtical landng speed.A optimum toler- leancimt to the vertical landing
speed is defined as 6m/s in the present paper, which is established on the
asis of injury probability andby our country′s long experiences in life
parachutes.
