The expert system for overseas construction project bidding which was developed by the authors can be used both for practical and teaching purposes. The system can utilize a number of production rule sets to calculate the bid price. Different production rule sets require the support of databases of different data structures. The method of automatic generation of database management system proposed in this paper can make the data management system to adapt itself automatically according to the change in the set of production rules, enhancing the flexibility and adaptability of databases with their management systems, avoiding the tedious manual operations in developing the management system to be required, and providing great convenience both to the software servicing personnel and to the users.
