China Unicom Completes CDMA Network Construction

岁末年初,"CDMA"作为电信业界的热门关键词之一,吸引了众多消费者热切企盼的目光.2002年元旦前夕,王建宙总裁在中国联通"CDMA之夜"招待会上欣喜地宣布;"人们期待已久的中国联通CDMA移动通信网一期工程如期建成,并于2001年12月31日在全国31个省、自治区、直辖市开通运营."与此同时,在北京、上海、广州、成都、杭州、南昌、海口等七个城市的CDMA 1x商用试验网也宣告建成.

The first-phase CDMA project of China Unicom was completed as scheduled and put into trial operation in January, 2002. This symbolized the new area of the technology development in our mobile communications and also the new stage of competition in China's mobile communication market. Following the rapid development of the mobile communication market in China, in April, 1999, the State Council approved that China Unicom would be fully responsible for the construction, operation and management of the CDMA network in China and in September, 2000, the project of China Unicorn's CDMA network was formally initiated. In the construction of this network, the policy of extensive coverage was adopted and in the first phase, the advanced and enhanced IS-95A technology was used taking into account the smooth migration to CDMA 1X. With the establishment of China Unicorn's CDMA network, both GSM and CDMA will coexist in China's mobile communication market offering more differentiating services and the consumers could have more options in the area of mobile communications, while stimulating the development of mobile communication industry as a whole in China.
