Based on the latest global researches, advances in heavy metal toxicity to fruit trees and resistance mechanisms were reviewed. The review covers these topics: (1) effects of heavy metals on vegetative and reproductive growth and seed germination of fruit trees; (2) physiological and biochemical responses of fruit trees to heavy metal toxicity; (3) resistance of fruit trees to heavy metals; (4) factors affecting heavy metal resistance of fruit trees.
