“戾”、“剌戾”为湘方言常语。以古音考之，“戾”与“剌”、“厉”、“劣”皆有音义联系；“剌戾”与“了戾”、“狼戾”、“膠戾”、“牢剌”、“劣厥”、“拂戾”、“泼剌”、“撇烈”等的关系亦然。这种“音近义通”理论的研究，亦有助于古文注释和辞书释义的探讨。

“Lì(戾)”and“là lì(剌戾)”are words of Hunan's dialect.Reference to ancient pronunciation reveals that “lì(戾)”and “là(剌)”、“lì(厉)”、“liè(劣)” are related both phonetically and semantically. A similar relationship is also found between “là lì(剌戾)”and “liǎo lì(了戾)”、“láng lì(狼戾)”、“jiāo lì(膠戾)”、“láo là(牢剌)”、“liè jué(劣厥)”、“fú lì(拂戾)”、“pō là(泼剌)”、“piě liè(撇烈)”. This“ close sound suggests close meaning” theory is helpful to annotation work as well as lexicography.
