Hydrogen peroxide is the primary bleaching chemical used in the production of high bright-ness me chanical pul ps.In recent years,hydrogen peroxide has been used in a variety of applications for bleaching chemical pulps.Initial applications may have been associated with decreasing the use of chlorine compounds,but the use of hydrogen peroxide has been shown to bevery cost effective.This paper provides background information on hydrogen peroxide handling safety and reaction chemistry.The impacts of various process control parameters are described.A variety of bleaching applications,ranging from extraction stage reinforcement to a final(PO)-stage,are described.
