This paper describes a method for simultaneous determination of residual monomers,4,4'-bipyridine and p- dichloroxylene,in poly (xylyl viologen dichloride) by thin-layer chroma-tographic densitometry.The chromatogram was developed on silica gel GF254 plate first with n-hexane/ benzene (4:3) and then with chloroform/ methanol (10:1).Silver nitrate-ammonium hydroxide-ethanol and silver nitrate-methanol were used as the spray reagents for p-dichloroxylene.The results obtained were satisfactory with a coefficient of variation less than 5%.
