On the Filial Piety in Stategies of the Warring States Period

《战国策》书中人物论孝,语言简短,常与忠对偶,与廉、信等美德排比。出现于游说之士口中的孝的楷模人物为曾参、孝己。书中记述了六个人的孝行,十三件以上利用孝道设计说辞、策划计谋的事。游说之士对春秋以来的传统孝道发表了两点异议,表达了对个人生命价值的重视。

The filial piety expounded by the characters in the book Stategies of the Warring States Period was simple in language,contrasted with loyalty and parallelling with virtues such as the incorruptible and the trust.The filial models recommended by the persuasive politicians were zengshan and xiaoji.The book recorded the pilial behaviours of six central characters and more then thirteen occassions on which poetic persuasion and scheming were based upon principles of filial piety.The politiciaus raised objections against two principles of the traditional pilial piety and showed theirconcern for to the valve of individual life.
