社会主义精神文明建设包括思想道德建设和教育科学文化建设两个方面的内容。历来教师素质即教师的文化、道德素养总是处在当时社会的较高水准上。教师劳动的目的,是为社会培养人才,具有十分广泛的社会性,教师不仅要对学生和学生家长负责,而且要对整个社会负责;教师劳动的对象,主要是广大青少年。教师劳动的特点直接要求对教育对象起直观示范作用,教师的这种表率带头作用及其社会影响,无疑对社会主义精神文明建设将起很大的促进作用。
