The testing of 143 000 kg, 35 4 t heavy axle load(HAL)cars at the U.S. Federal Railroad Administration's(FRA)Facility for Accelerated Service Testing(FAST)has been made. Over 1 000 million gross tonnes have been accumulated. There have been five distinct phases of testing intended to provide information on the safety and economics of operating HAL cars.
