以糖类为基础的药物（糖药物）最重要特点是，它们中间的大多数是作用于细胞表面，不进入细胞内部，因此，对整个机体的干扰少，副作用小。糖药物不仅可以作药物，还可作为保健食品。糖药物的发展有赖于糖库的建立。糖类的一些特性也可用于药物的靶向定位和寿命的调节。

The important property of carbohydrate-based drugs is that most of them interact with molecules on the cell surface, do not entry into cell. So this kind of drug show less influence on organism, and less by- effect. Therefore carbohydrates and related compounds are not only used as drug, but also as functional food. The development of carbohydrate-based drugs depends on the establishment of carbohydrate library. Some properties of carbohydrate could be used for targetting and improvement of half-life of drugs.
