The First Cavern Under Heaven: Research Into Huotong Mountain in Eastern Fujian

霍童山做为中国宗教圣地的历史 ,至少可以追溯到南朝 (第五世纪 ) ,尤其在中唐它被敕封为天下第一洞天 ,名列五岳之前。个中原因 ,不仅有单纯的宗教背景 ,还有它得天独厚的自然地理环境和人文因素。唐以来当地佛教势力后来居上 ,明中叶著名道观鹤林宫毁于山洪 ,霍童山做为道教名山的历史逐渐被人遗忘。本文运用详实的史料 。

The history of Huotong Mountain as a sacred religious spot in China, can be traced to the Southern Dynasties (the 5th century AD). In the middle of the Tang Dynasty, the mountain was named The First Cavern Under Heaven on imperial mandate, and was listed before the five great mountains in China. This was due not only to religious reasons, but also to its unique geographical location and cultural factors. But after the Tang Dynasty, Buddhism overwhelmed Taoism, and in the middle of the Ming Dynasty, the famous Taoist Temple-- Helin Temple on the mountain was destroyed in a mountain flood, thus memories of a famous Taoist mountain faded. This paper makes a preliminary research into the history of Huotong Mountain on the basis of solid historical facts.
